Frequently Asked Questions
General
How do I install resovale?
Download and open the DMG on your Mac, then drag resovale into Applications. After copying finishes, eject the disk image and open resovale from Applications.
What can I do with resovale?
resovale is a local-first audio editor for macOS.
Improve sound, remove echo, navigate Mandarin Chinese recordings through transcripts, and manage and align multiple tracks. Built-in AI or an external assistant can help prepare an editing draft for whole-episode listening and comparison.
Files & Storage
Are my files uploaded?
Editing, Mandarin Chinese transcription, echo removal, loudness balancing, and export run on your Mac. When you use cloud AI or connect an external assistant, that provider receives task-relevant transcripts, instructions, and project information. Audio analysis also sends the selected audio excerpts.
The first time you use the editor, you choose where to keep your resovale workspace. Imported recordings are then copied into their project folders and stay on your device.
The models and runtime components needed for Mandarin Chinese transcription and echo removal are included in the macOS app, so no separate first-use download is required. Processing does not upload your audio.
Where are my projects stored?
Projects are stored in the local resovale workspace you set up the first time. Each top-level folder in that workspace is one project.
The app writes project state and edits into each project folder and scans the workspace directly to build the project library. AI models ship with the app; waveform peaks, Mandarin Chinese transcription checkpoints, and other rebuildable data remain local.
Will uninstalling resovale delete my project files?
No. Original audio, project records, and exports remain in the resovale workspace you selected. Uninstalling the app does not delete that folder.
After reinstalling, select the existing workspace once and the app rebuilds the full project library from disk—there is no need to reconnect projects one by one. Required models are included in the newly installed app.
We still recommend backing up important projects and source media.
Processing
Why does processing take a long time?
Processing time depends on file length, file size, and the selected AI features.
Long recordings and advanced processing may require more time.
Why does the result sound different from the original?
AI enhancement is designed to improve clarity and reduce unwanted noise.
Because every recording environment is different, results may vary depending on microphone quality, room conditions, and background noise.
What should I do if processing fails?
Check the file format, available storage, and resovale workspace access.
If the issue continues, reopen the app and confirm that the workspace is still accessible when prompted.
Compatibility
Which languages does transcription support?
The first native macOS release supports transcript recognition for Mandarin Chinese recordings only.
Which Macs are supported?
The current release requires macOS 14 or later. The app is a Universal build that runs on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
What files are supported?
The app supports common audio formats readable by macOS, including WAV, AIFF, M4A, MP3, and CAF. Exact compatibility depends on the file’s codec.
Privacy
Do you sell my data?
No.
We do not sell your personal information or your content.
Do I need an account?
No.
You can use resovale without creating an account.
Your projects remain stored locally on your device.
What is shared when I connect an external AI assistant?
Only when you connect Codex, ChatGPT, WorkBuddy, or Claude Code and ask it to understand or edit the current project may the selected assistant receive transcript excerpts, timeline metadata, and your prompt needed to complete that request.
resovale does not receive the assistant’s API key; the connector can provide authorized project information and task-relevant audio excerpts. Data sent to the selected assistant is governed by that service’s account settings, terms, and privacy practices.
